The experts of the Best Paths project – including two major MEDEE members, the Ecole Centrale de Lille and RTE – will hold a workshop on “HVDC links in offshore windfarms” in Trondheim, Norway. .
Discover innovative solutions
The workshop will allow TSOs, wind developers, industry and academia to discover the innovative solutions developed in the framework of the Best Paths project for overcoming the complex interactions and the related risks occurring where large offshore wind farms are grid integrated with high voltage DC links.
To this end, Best Paths partners are examining the interactions of the wind turbine converters with the high voltage converters and have created a laboratory setup where studies can be performed in a representative environment with measurements from real converter equipment.
Visit the Norwegian Smartgrid Laboratory
The highlight of the special stakeholder workshop is the visit of the Norwegian Smartgrid Laboratory where the demonstrator platform of the project’s first demonstration will be hosted. The modular Multilevel Converters developed within the project will be presented together with the capabilities for real time simulation and Power Hardware in the Loop experiments. Moreover, SINTEF will offer the possibility to visit the SINTEF Energy Lab, a new laboratory facility opened in 2015 including a high-voltage laboratory designed to test equipment with rated voltages up to 420 kV AC and 600 kV DC for on- and offshore electrical AC power supply systems.
When?
11 May 2017, from 9.00 to 12.30 and the afternoon will be dedicated to the visit of SINTEF laboratories.
